Downtime Playtime Uptime

So not to break with my new found routine here goes the summary of last week along with some more insane and random ramblings from the inner sanctum of my brain.
Fortunately I shall start out with the usual topics of Work and Play. Work is a true love it and hate it affair at the moment. Loving it because I get to really see some amazing sets and bands and also because the people I work with are great. Downsides include shitty pay, weird hours and the worst bit of all is the fact there aren’t enough hours to go round. I wanted to be working a 40 hour, £200 a week job but I’m currently managing a 20 hour, £100 per week. I take all the shifts at stealth but then if I apply for some at rescue rooms they simply refuse. Yet the annoying thing is that if I was a girl they would say yes. Politics suck.
Playtime has been pretty simple at the moment seeing as I work most of the big nights of the week. I went to Egner’s for a Bbq on Wednesday (I think), which was awesome and just drank an insane amount of beer. Too fast and on an empty stomach it has to be added. Thursday night I actually managed to get out for some beer and dancing in City which was impressive seeing as I was working that night. Suffice to say I took full advantage of the short shift and danced my ass off in city which I haven’t done for about a month. Also got a taxi back with Angus and Paul which made a change from the usual massive taxi fare when I go home by myself after a shift. Went to Egner’s for another beer Sunday night and then to spoons for Monday madness were I also got a bit wasted.
Have decided to go to the Casino tonight to watch the Gray’s and Lucas attempt to destroy the competition and walk away with a grand. Once I’ve seen how it’s done I think I might even lay down a tenner next time. Anyway that’s about it and I’ll save you from some insane ramblings and just pack up now.
Till next time

I think I need some kind of a routine.

I think I need some kind of a routine. Blogs, Sleep and work are all pretty messed up at the moment. Think I ought to take a leaf out of the Alex Gray’s book and just post a blog every Sunday or something. Still I guess he has a lot more free time than me seeing as he works. Lol. Anyway I have so much stuff to blog about I think this could be a long one. To try and make it more readable I will break it down into Uni, Holidays, Work and Nottingham.
Mexico
If Carlsberg made holidays: First things first I guess I think I ought to do some writing on my Holiday. As I wrote extensively in previous blog’s I went to Mexico for a week at the start of June. I booked it for £400 including flights insurance, basically everything except spending money. I wasn’t sure what to expect because I’ve never been on an all-inclusive holiday before and I was slightly sceptical that the food was going to be awful and the hotel cheap. Especially seeing as I was going to the land of Mexico where it seems most of them want to hop across the border to the states. Still I was confident me and Lydia could make the most out of anything even if it was awful.
Anyway it started early in the morning with a car trip up to Doncaster airport followed by a 10 hour flight across the arctic circle and the east coast of the USA before hitting the Caribbean. Suffice to say 10hours is a long, long time especially when your over 6 foot and the leg space essentially compromises of somewhere for a 5 year old to squeeze into. Lets just say we both didn’t enjoy that bit. When we stepped of the plan and onto the Tarmac in Cancun airport I can safely say that’s one of the hottest and most humid places I had ever been. It was unbearable. After been whisked through customs and onto a air-con coach I could hardly believe I was there. As far as I was concerned the £400 was worth the flights alone. I was staying at the Riu Lupita and all the other people on the coach were staying there too so, after an hours trip down a scary and quite frankly dangerous motorway we arrived at the Playa Del Carmen Resort complex where our hotel was situated. First impressions basically destroyed any doubts I may have hidden as I thought I was going to a 3 star place with basic amenities. Suffice to say when we pulled up to the reception after going past the sign displaying 5 stars (not 3) I was wondering if I’d got on the wrong coach. After checking in and getting the complimentary drink we wandered to the room to get changed. The first room was really nice and me and Lydia were still reeling from the fact we had only paid £400 for what was essentially a £120 per night place. Still we wanted a king-size so we swapped with no problems. Anyway I think I could spend hours and hours talking about the holiday and no doubt you’d stop reading so I’ll try keep it brief-ish and stick to the bits that are going to make you jealous.
The food, completely blew my mind. I expected pretty standard stuff and at really strict times but it was not like that at all. Food was served from half 7 in the morning till 11 at night and there was everything you could want. At breakfast there was everything from fruit, cereal I had never seen before, fresh juice things, breads and my favourite, a classic fryup. All of it fresh and free. Did I mention you could have beer for breakfast seeing as it was on tap next to the other free drinks? Lunch was equally as massive with absolutely loads of salads and other things but I stuck to the bread and cheese as I usually had a huge breakfast. Dinner was just amazing. They had different sections of the food hall for different foods and you could get anything from fresh cooked pasta to as much steak/veal as you could eat or even a fajita if you fancied something local. All of this was completely free and delicious so I don’t think we had a proper meal outside of the hotels once on the holiday.
I say hotels because in the beach resort where we were staying there were another 4 Riu hotels and we could eat or drink in any of those as well if we wanted.
Drinks. Well what can I say. I thought beer and cocktails would come with a price tag but it turns out that everything was free. I think I had the best part of the cocktail menu and much more on top of that I can tell thee. Swimming around in a pool with a cool beer in-amongst palm trees is definitely something that I would like to do more often. And to be brutally honest that’s what we did most of the time. We went out on a few day trips to the local Mayan ruins at Tulum and also visited a massive water park in a lagoon which was awesome but apart from nursing a hangover by the pool we didn’t really do all that much moving around. Still I went for relaxing holiday and that’s what we got so I know I was happy. I also think any women would be happy with sun, sea and free alcohol so I guess Lydia enjoyed it too. Me and Lydia also celebrated our 6month while in Mexico so that night we went to weird bar in a massive cave system and then went for a few beers on the beach front. It was truly amazing. I would also like to thank Lydia for speaking to all the Mexicans in her fluent Spanish. I was well impressed and don’t mind that she probably had a few jokes with the locals about her boyfriend/Gringo. I have missed out so much about this holiday but I don’t have the time or patience to write it all down and I think the photos in the gallery will probably do a beer job of explaining how gorgeous the whole holiday was. For £400 it was probably the best money I have ever spent.
Uni
For all of you people that know me you’ll know I have been absolutely bricking it over the last year and was pretty much certain I would be re-sitting the year, if not at least a shit load of module re-sits in September. I’ll cut straight to the money shot and shout from the rooftops that I passed in true geek style, w000000000000t. If your sitting there saying to yourself “how the fuck did he do that” I can assure you that I have no idea either. I passed with a pretty poor 46% average but I guess it’s still a pass. A full run down of the results would mean piss all to most people so I won’t bother but if you want to know specific module marks from me just ask in the comment section below. Suffice to say I’ll be back in Manchester next year.
Work
So for the moment I’m back in Nottingham with the Parents who are making me dinner and providing a free bed which is most awesome. I am also in the process of trying to pay off the massive amount of debt I currently find myself in. I have about £30 to last me till the end of the summer or whenever the next pay day is. Pay day because I have got myself a job in a club some of you may know, called Stealth. It’s basically a DnB, Techno, Electro club with a few Indie nights and is part of the Rock city, Rescue Rooms and The Social club scene. I get minimum wage and the hours are very long but I like the early mornings and late afternoons and the job is good fun once you get used to the bar. Tonight I’m doing a club night called Firefly and I don’t expect to leave the club till 7am starting at 9pm. I do however get to see any band at any of the venues mentioned above for free and can also get into any venue free so save quite a bit on that alone. Only issues are getting home alone at 4-5am when taxis are so expensive.
So that’s basically everything covered in my life at the moment. Suffice to say I’m very happy with how life in general is going. Hopefully I will be able to write a few more regular updates and actually get some humour into these posts as I seem unable to do it when I write more than 1,500 words.
Until next week,
Sam out.
