Screw you Guys i’m going to Mexico

Blog’s….everyone has them. When did I stop being so special?
Whether it’s a blog on MySpace or a comment collection on Facebook or even the excuse of website you’re currently reading, everyone now has an opinion. Being the all knowing, pretentious twat, yours truly has decided that having gone through the effort of designing a site my views are way better than everyone else’s. Disagree then deal with it. Still I would say that…..my thoughts and ramblings cost me money. Anyway getting back on track. I seem to notice everyone has a blog these days. In an age where privacy is at the edge of most middle age peoples mind, the younger generation seems only too happy to let me know who there best friends are, what music is currently scene, and what colour knickers they’re currently wearing. And no Alex. Before you ask I ain’t giving you the links.
Anyway I thought I’d test it out on a random guy I picked on a forum and see how much info I could find out about him. I found his website address in his signature and from there I found a gamer tag. Having found out he’s a loser for playing counter strike I then proceed to find out he’s in a clan. This clan has a website and his profile has his picture. It’s looking good. So far I know his name, his face and know his interests (even if they do suck). Next I find his eBay profile. He has bought some parts for VW golf and that tells me what he drives. Next on the list is the big one. Seeing as I know he has a sweet pc and now I know he has a good car I need to know his address so I can rob him. Easy. Just go back to his personal website and bam there’s his CV with address. RAIDING PARTY! Come on people if you’re going to get a stalker, don’t make it so easy! (Just for the record I’m not a stalker.)
Yet again I’ve completely deviated from my original point. When did blog’s and websites stop being completely geeky? I worked tirelessly for years to instil this image of me being an uber geek and now the rest of the world is joining me in my blog quest. Why don’t “scene” people just stick to laughing at each other on street corners and stay off the net? A cruise around mySpace makes me sick most of the time. Hundreds of emo kids who’ve picked the most emo/arty picture they can find and then written some bullshit about their favourite bands and TV like anybody will care. Hypocritically I also have a mySpace account and a place in facebook, however in my defence it’s because everyone else does and I wanted to see their profiles or attempts at a blog which requires an account. I’d also like to blame the girlfriend, (you know who you are) for making me join facebook because she wanted to have an accurate description under relationship. Can’t just have in a relationship without a link can we? While I’m raving about mySpace. What the hell is with bands adding you as friends? Why the fuck do I want to have a band as friend? In-fact why do I want to have a collection of people at all listed under my name? Half the time I cant help but feel its some sad fucker adding as many people to their friends list so that they feel better about the fact that in real life half of them are bands that they don’t really like, and the other half are friends you don’t really know but felt like adding anyway. Why do I want the same old song blaring out at me every time I view my profile? Why do people have backgrounds that make it impossible to read the text? Why do people feel they have to waste their lives on this bullshit? Hypocritical I know but I strive to be different. Hell I had this blog before it was cool. Other blog’s suck. If you’re going to do it at least do it right! Now praise me the alpha geek!
With that off my chest I guess I better do an update on what I’m doing with my life. As you might know I’m currently in the final term of my second year degree in electronic engineering and it’s just hit that time of the year when the second round of coursework is due in. I’ve handed in one monstrosity of a coursework for my embedded systems module. The code I wrote can be found here for all you people that might be interested in c programming. It’s just shy of 1600 lines I think. Anyway I’m sure there’s a load more to do so I can’t get too happy.
When I’m not working and when its nice weather we have also being trying to get down to the local park and play some extreme Frisbee or just a small game of football. One of these times Nick took along his camera and we had some fun trying to get action shots. There’s quite a few fun ones so I’ll list them here (link here) but my favourite is the one of me diving well high in the air. I’ve also added some more photos of more 20th b’day bash back in Nottingham which although I don’t remember I’m sure some people might. If you’re wondering where they are click here (link here) and don’t laugh too hard at how wet we all are. Suffice to say it was a bit tropical that night.
I was also recently given the opportunity to re-organise the fresher’s week like last year. Last year was great, (search for fresher’s week at the bottom for the post) however this year it’s exactly the same except we are doing as an outside contracted company which means we’re being paid. W0000t I’m being paid to get drunk for a week. Me, Nick, Nick and Will are going to be hitting the fresher’s hard in all senses of the word. Except me of course who will be completely responsible*. My target this year is 50 free shots in 5 days. Tough call but someone’s got to do it.
I’ve saved my last piece of fun news for last. I’ve not actually had a holiday so far this year so I’m getting a bit cranky however me and Lydia talked for a long time and decided to go somewhere fun. After searching the usual suspects like Spain Italy etc I got annoyed and started searching for more fun places in the Caribbean. Surprisingly they weren’t all that more expensive so I rushed around like a lemming and eventually found a nice place in Jamaica for £400. I was well excited so told Lydia who then had a quick look and destroyed my meagre search attempt, promptly finding a wicked deal in Mexico. So there you have it. I’m going for 8days, all inclusive to Mexico with Lydia. Suffice to say I’m very excited.
I’ll leave you all with a quote from the man I live with;
“If there’s grass on the wicket then they’re past their sell by date.”
Till next time,
Sam
