Long time no Speak
Jesus has it really been over 5 weeks since I wrote one of these? Anyway a lot has happened in that time as is usually the case in the passing of time. Well unless you’re a hermit, but I’m not. And I’m rambling………………..
Anyway after lyd came up over the weekend it was back to uni. I was going to post a picture of my timetable, but it was always changing due to my course directors all being mongs. Therefore I gave up until now when it’s nearly stable. Final picture is now here. Anyway so far Uni is going really well. The course units are actually interesting and I have some motivation to wake up in the morning. Hell I often end up being in Uni at half 5 – 6 o’clock in the evening just doing something random. If your interested……and I’m willing to bet your not, they thing that’s really firing me up is the Embedded systems module. Basically it’s writing lots of software and basically designing a useful and hard project from the ground up. Yes ladies and gentleman I have actually built something this semester. Don’t get me wrong I haven’t soldered more than a few things (and that was just repairing other things) but I am actually getting a sense of achievement from my work. That’s something that’s been lacking in a while. I find it’s often hard to justify spending my time on an abstract and often complicated maths problem when I could be doing other things…..like drinking beer.
Talking of which. Beer intake has steadily been on the up this term with a beer night now common at least once a week and often quite a few more times as well. It does have to be said that last term was a very, very slow term as far as socializing goes. I think the combination of shit Uni days and the general crappy mood I was in most of the time meant I very rarely went for a big night out. A very different story from when I’m in Notts. In-fact I was surprised at how much I miss the Nottingham crew. Not that I don’t have mates up here, in-fact I have some brilliant friends up here, but it just seems different. In Nottingham I never really have to think about going out and I seem to go out somewhere every night but here it always seems more laboured to organise a night out. That’s something I’m defiantly up for changing for the remainder of this term. For the record the new Big Thursday is Big Tuesday. Manchester you better be ready.
Because I missed so much time since the last blog I wont even try to remember what happened since then as far as nights out go however I will recount the night that was Pancake night and also this Friday that although started out as a quiet night in Lloyds it quickly developed into a 10 shooters, 6 pints, 2 Ciders, onion bhaji’s and a big fuck-off hangover in the morning kind of night. Personally I blame the snow for making me hyper and also my inability to resist a challenge. I mean if a shooter is a pound, how can you justify not getting 5 at a time? Suffice to say it was a good night with me dancing like a drugged up meerkat. Moving back a bit…..snow I hear you cry……in March. I mean WTF? I’m all for more snow but it’s not the right time dammit. Still it’s always fun to come home to a 4 foot snowman sitting on your doorstep blocking you getting your bike in the house. (Nice one Paul )
One of the other memorable nights was pancake day 06’. We invited a few people round the house for a few pancakes and Ralph, Paul and Nick responded to the lemon and sugar pancake call. (Or chocolate spread depending on your favourite flavour). Anyway while Nick and Mel made pancakes (a massive 32 of them) we all sat around talking guns, playstation and c programming. Quite a conversation range I’m sure you’ll agree. While talking about the guns (and by guns I mean airsoft ones), Mel told us about a guy that photographed his collection and then had them developed in Boots who subsequently told the police. The result being a full armed response unit breaking down his door and raiding his house. Being rather up for a laugh, (and you don’t get raided by police all that often) we thought we might try take some photos of us with as many guns as possible in the attempt to create something worth writing about in this blog. Unfortunately the lack of any seriousness in any of the photos may give it away as a cry for attention. However we do need a new front door so if we get one coz the police kick it down I’m all up for it.
So what else am I doing with my life? Well I’m still working at the Midland Hotel which is still paying some bills (apart from I’m still in massive debt), and I’m still seeing famous people. In-fact last night I saw Jeff Lacy, who later went on to get creamed by Joe Calzaghe in an awesome boxing match at the MEN arena. In-fact that night was pretty awesome as I did nothing all night then had a staff drink that was also paid, then went to another staff only lock-in at the paramount where Nick works, where I also got another free drink, and watched the boxing on the big screen. That was closely followed by a curry on the curry mile at about 4. I can’t think of anywhere else in the country where you could get an open curry restaurant at half 4 in the morning and still see people at other tables.
Anyway until next time. Photos HERE
Sam out.
