Freshers Week and Start of Uni
Ohh it’s been a while since I did this.
Basically I am still without the internet which is killing me slowly and very painfully! Bulldog have been “trying” to connect us for about the last month however they are still waiting for BT to tell them which exchange to use which is very annoying but there’s nothing I can do about it. Anyway in the meantime I am without the internet and my email so I should think that I have about 500 f00kin emails when I do get connected. Plus I have no time to write stuff for the site and when I do, I forget to bring it into Uni to publish it. Here’s my mini attempt to do that updating:
As everybody in the UK (or at least Manchester) knows, it was fresher’s week last week which meant a full week of getting fucking wasted, and basically wasting a week of my life along with a years worth of savings. I decided to try minimize damage by inviting myself along to help on the G-RA pub crawl which is the freshers pub crawl organised by the halls I lived in last year. As it happens I know 2 of the 4 members on the G-RA (Grosvenor Residents Association) and therefore it wasn’t hard getting a place helping out. Especially since they were the only ones organising it and they still hadn’t got a single pub or club for any of the 5 days, a mere 2 days before they were meant to be selling tickets. Anyway me, Nick Ball, Nick Richardson and Nick Brown (or from now on, just “The Nick’s”), went around loads and loads of pubs and clubs and asked them what offers and stuff we could do for every night that week. The list we eventually got was awesome and just in-case you know Manchester well I am going to list them for you.
Monday Night:
Kro2, for some Beck’s (about 5 of) ~ 5 Units
Revolution (Oxford Road), for some shots and cocktails ~ 6 Units
Thirsty Scholar, for a pint and a beer ~ 3 Units
Font Bar, for a few more cocktails ~ 6 Units
Sub-Space, for some beer, Alco-pops and cheesy dancing. ~ 4 Units
Total ~ 23 Units
Suffice to say I truly wasted and danced my ass off to some cheesy tunes. Not to mention chatted to many a young fresher too nervous to speak to anybody that didn’t care being shot down. I filled the hole perfectly, however not in as many ways as maybe I would have liked. Still on to Tuesday. Tuesday was meant to be an awesome night cruising around the union and ending up in Retrospect which is a massive club night in the Carling Academy but it never happened since we had a welcome buffet at the Barnes Wallis building followed by a comedy night at Korumba which although good, didn’t quite measure up to the night we had planned and had to scrap. I made up for it though in The Footage and got truly wasted on about 9 pints Total ~ 18 Units. The next morning was probably the worst hangover I had all week for that reason. Anyway, Wednesday:
Wednesday Night:
Grand Central, for some beers and Strawpedos ~ 4 Units
Baa, for some free shots ~ 2 Units
Arch 9’s, for some more shots and random mixers, ~ 5 Units
Fat Cats, for some beers ~ 2 Units
Revolution (Deansgate locks), for some Shots and more cocktails ~ 6 Units
Loaf, for some beer ~ 1 Unit
Emporia, for some free drinks (mixers I think), and more dancing then back to Arch 9’s for more shots. ~ 4 Units
Total ~ 24 Units
Yet again the alcohol took its toll and I barely remember the last 2 places however I did end up back at Grosvenor in some chicks place watching the OC until Pete arrived and promptly passed out, which meant I was walking home sooner than I had hoped. After all you never leave a man behind and in his state I was concerned he may have never made it home. Anyway after a loooong walk home I passed out and awoke to a sunny Thursday.
Thursday Night:
Phoenix, for some Alco-Pops and beer ~ 2 Units
Czech Bar, for some 1664 ~ 2 Units
The Pub, for something like beer ~ 1 Units
ScuBar, for bottles of something ~ 2 Units
Korumba, for free Wkd red I think ~ none
The Zoo, for £1 drinks and classic Trance tunes which meant I really gave it some and danced my ass off all night. ~ 3 Units
Total ~ 10 Units
This night was near enough a quiet one as I didn’t get all that wasted and managed to get home with the assistance of 2 girls I met in the kebab place from last year however I wasn’t interested (and I doubt they were either) so I just went home and tried to get a good nights sleep for Friday.
Friday Night:
Bus to Fallowfield:
Cheshire Cat, for about 8 shots ~ 8 Units
Bruins Bar, for about 6 bottles and 3 shots ~ 9 Units
Orange Grove (or Groove if you have a liverpudlian accent), for about 6 vodkas and 5 bottles ~ 11 Units
Robinskis, for 1 and a half bottles of wine followed by 4 Alco-Pops and god knows what else. ~ 20 Units
Total ~ 40 Units
Suffice to say I staggered home and passed out managing to pull my curtain off the wall as I tried to use it to stay upright I think. Pete says it was funny to watch anyway!
And that’s my fresher’s week. I think if I add up the units I drank in the week it hits about 115 which is a staggering amount and I hope my mum doesn’t read this blog as I think she would kill me. Seriously though I have no idea how to really calculate the units in a drink so I could be totally wrong however I think it’s pretty accurate.
Unfortunately there were no girls this year, however I am in no rush to find somebody and the ones I met were really nice to chat too if nothing else. Still I think I better find somebody soon or I might be accused of being gay, (not that I don’t like gay people…*cough* Alex ).
Anyway apart from that, the moving in has been great and I’m looking forward to the next year however I am still without a job which amazes me really seeing as I went to so many places. Still I am sure I can find somewhere if I go to the retail sector and not just the bars and clubs.
In other news, some bastard chav stole my bike about 2 weeks ago by cutting straight through the bike lock but I should hopefully have a new one by about Thursday of this week. I will update again when and if it arrives.
Till next time,
Sam Out

Crappy Friday and the Internet has Landed
And then the whole world was at my fingertips. Shame I’m too ill to care.
Was at work last night and everything was fine and in balance. I woke up this morning and my body decided it didn’t like anything and proceeded to make me feel shitty for the rest of the day including the cracking migraine I have while writing this in bed. Yup I think my body has eventually had enough of the late nights and early mornings and decided to make me pay the ultimate penalty of being ill over the weekend. Unfortunately I have also missed the 2 lectures and a lab session today which I am really pissed off about as I like the labs today. I think I’ll be able to do them next week instead though as I have emailed the lecturer concerned to try and sort it out.
Anyway I also managed to speak to Joe (my little brother) for the first time in a while and it was great speaking to him. Sounds like he’s really having a good time back in Nottingham. He also sent me his personal statement which he is writing to send to the universities and it’s truly brilliant. I actually laughed out loud at some of it and I think it’s probably the best personal statement I’ve read in a while, in-fact ever. I’m really impressed anyway. I was tempted to publish it online but I think I better ask him first. Suffice to say I really like it.
We also got hold of season 2 of The West Wing today so I plan on watching a few episodes of that later and hopefully getting back into that. I also finished watching lost last week and it has to be one of the best series I have ever seen. The end is simply superb and I can’t wait for season 2, as the end of season 1 left nearly no ends tied up. Mel has also gone down to Nottingham to see his girlfriend Clare so it’s me and Pete in the house for the weekend. Think it might be a geeky weekend all round.
I am also fully back online as of now, so i will be on MSN now and i can eventually read my emails on time. For the record i had recieved 166 relevant emails while i was away and thousands upon thousands of useless newsletters and other not so cool stuff. It passed even my expectations. Anyway i’m now bored of typing so thats it for this episode. Till next time.
